Beauty Tips To Go GreenYour beauty regimen is your personal business, but if you’ll look at the process you go through, the products you buy, you’ll see how they affect everyone on Earth. We offer 6 beauty tips where you can go green and still have your personal regimen while contributing to the efforts of leaving less of a footprint on Earth too.

Every day we get bombarded by the cosmetic industry with various products that guarantee to make us look gorgeous, younger, thinner, etc. And we actually believe it and purchase those products. Then we purchase the next new product and another and another and so on. But are those products safe for your and are safe for the Earth?

Well, maybe not.  Many of those products aren’t regulated and contain some ingredients or all of the ingredients, have dubious implications. There are many that come from petroleum and have other ingredients that are possibly toxic, which may not even be listed on the label. Fortunately though, there are alternative products that are safe for you and allow you to go green with your beauty regimen too.

Avoid The Marketing Hype And Save Money

You can make beauty treatments yourself at home and avoid all the marketing hype while you save money, be healthier and go green too. Your kitchen is the magical place to start. You can make vanilla bean butter with 4 ingredients that make a great moisturizer for your body. Apply it when you get out of the shower and the oils will soak right into your warm skin.  The recipe:

1 c raw cocoa butter
½ c sweet almond oil
½ c coconut oil
1 vanilla bean

  1. Melt together the cocoa butter and coconut oil and let it sit for 30 minutes.
  2. Grind the vanilla bean in tiny pieces
  3. Mix together the grounded vanilla bean, sweet almond oil and cocoa butter-coconut mixture
  4. Place in freezer for 20 minutes so the oils will solidify
  5. Whip until there is a fluffy consistency and store in a glass jar

You can keep the jar the refrigerator or at room temp.

Read The Labels

When it comes to cosmetics, one the most complicated and largest issues are unregulated chemicals they contain.  As a consumer, you can read the labels and avoid the products that contain main ingredients that aren’t natural or organic. Learn which cosmetic companies have agreed to join the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics and buy only products from them. The campaign is the joint effort to use only certified natural and organic ingredients in the products that are put on the market.

Use Deodorants That Are Aluminum-free

Another way you can go green with your beauty regimen is the deodorant you use. Aluminum is a commonly used ingredient in antiperspirants. It has been known to irritate the skin which may cause inflammation that sometimes spreads.  Antiperspirants also block pores which prevent your body from removing toxins by perspiring. This in turn can reduce your body being able to regulate its own temperature. Instead of buying a antiperspirant with aluminum. You can also make an all natural deodorant too:

3 tablespoon virgin coconut oil
2 tablespoon shea butter
3 tablespoon baking soda
2 tablespoon cornstarch
5 drops of an essential oil, any flavor

Place a ½ pint glass jar in the center of a small pot filled with water and bring the water to a simmering level. Then add coconut oil and shea butter, allow them to melt. After the mixture has melted, turn the heat off and add the baking soda and cornstarch, then stir until the mixture is smooth. Add the flavor of essential oil you chose and let cool.

Let the mixture sit at room temp until hard. Then scrape out around 1 teaspoon and roll into a ball then apply to armpits. It will melt then soak in. You can also put the completed mixture in a used anti-antiperspirant tube for applying to armpits.
